 [ 1 ] Fortress Corregidor was invaded by a U.S. taskforce on the morning of February 16, 1945;. The parachute invasion of the island's "Topside" was accomplished by the 503d Parachute Infantry Regiment. The invasion of the southern beaches of Corregidor was the work of the Third Battalion, reinforced by Company " A," Thirty Fourth Infantry Regiment, Twenty-Fourth Infantry Division. This narrative deals in the main with the activities of one company of the invasion Force - Company "K."

[ 2 ] Advance Intelligence on Japanese armament reported 18 heavy coastal defense gun positions, 14 anti-aircraft installations, and countless caves and machinegun emplacements around Malinta Hill, San Jose and South Dock.
