Note discrepancy of date of death between this listing, which coincides with the ABMC data, and the account related by Devlin (below.)

On Bottomside proper,  Capt. Howard G. Fenway's Company"I" 34th Infantry, spent most of the day on the 18th clearing out the North Dock area for the second time. Japanese Imperial Marine units had infiltrated this area during the nightand, even though they were cornered there, refused to surrender. Using the same tactics being employed by the paratroopers, Fenway's infantrymen methodically swept through North Dock, where they killed 42 Japanese, captured two MG's and sealed 6 cave openings. Company I's only casualty during the sweep was Sergeant Owen Williams. When his rifle squad walked into a grenade ambush, Williams cried a warning. His men ducked down and were saved. But Williams' warning shout had given his position away to an Imperial Marine who killed him with a well-thrown grenade.
